We have had a tradition of having a one night staycation on our wedding anniversary, just the two of us. This year our hotel choice was Lilla Roberts, the newest SLH hotel in Helsinki. Originally, I didn’t even plan to write anything about this hotel since the stay was so short but we had such a pleasant stay that Lilla Roberts deserves a few, praising words.
SWEET SUITE
We stayed one night in a junior suite (room 305). Unfortunately I’m not able to tell the exact price since my husband bought it as a gift and refused to reveal the price. I bet you can find it easier from the website than me blackmailing my husband. Our junior suite had a classy film noir atmosphere. After I had managed to turn on a jazz lounge list from Spotify, we didn’t feel like leaving the room at all.
The interior design of the room was stylish and the approximately 50 square meters of space was enough for us two. I loved the materials used in the room. A nice mix of leather, animal skin and feathers, you just wanted to touch and feel all the materials. We had a view to the inner court which for us wasn’t problematic since we only stayed there one night. I immediately pulled the thick curtains accross the window and run a bath for myself.
The bathroom followed nicely the jazzy, dark theme of the room. I spent way too much time in the bathtub. The White Company’s Noir bath amenities had a pleasant, unisex smell. Many hotels have way too masculine shower gel but these were actually suitable for both. There were plenty of mirrors in the bathroom and enough space to hide your makeup, therefore at least this room type is suitable for ladies traveling either for business or pleasure.
Our junior suite had all the extras you expect to have in a Small Luxury Hotel. We had two big televisions, safety box, bathrobes, slippers, Nespresso coffee machine and minibar with high quality products. In addition there was iron and ironing board and quite nicely space for clothes.
SERVICES AND SERVICE
Lilla Roberts offered a boutique like design which has been one key element in SLH hotels. The entrance, Art Deco style and small, but important details made this hotel interesting. Artwork was nicely spread to the hotel premises. The only thing I was missing was a spa facility. There is a gym but since we only stayed one night, we didn’t even check it out. Check in and check out were handled in a flash and the personnel were freshly polite.
There is a Lilla e. bar next to the reception and I could see myself coming here for afterwork drinks with friends. The cocktails sounded tempting and followed the Art Deco style. Breakfast was served in Krog Roba restaurant. What I love about smaller, Finnish boutique hotels is the fact that breakfast items are always fresh and with high quality. Lilla Roberts didn’t disappoint here either. The selection may be slightly limited but I could find plenty of delicious things to eat. Special coffees were included to the price. I convinced my husband to try one sea buckthorn shots which according to him tasted like womit. I disagree. Womit or not, it gives you a nice vitamin C boost for the day. In addition to the womit tasting shot, there are also other, more tasty Finnish specialities on offer e.g. Karelian pies and dried Finnish berries. In the evening we dined in Krog Roba. I had read good reviews of the Krog Roba signature hamburger and it was indeed a very good performance. All in all, Krog Roba was a positive surprise. It followed the hotels laidback but stylish theme and its lowkey atmosphere makes it a nice place to have your first date.
The location of Lilla Roberts on the Pieni Roobertinkatu is optimal for various types of travel. You are basically in the center, but nicely hidden on a smaller alley, away from the very central hussle. There is a tram stop a short walk away around the corner and you can find good restaurants very close by.
To us Lilla Roberts offered true SLH quality, we were not disappointed. This hotel had a perfect ambiance to celebrate wedding anniversary but I bet it works nicely for business travelers as well (WIFI was included to the junior suite rate and we didn’t encounter any problems with it). Hotel Haven used to be my favorite hotel in town but Lilla Roberts has now risen above it. We will be back.
To Destination LOMA’s opinion, Lilla Roberts deserves full 5 stars. It may not have plenty of activities available but offers luxurious boutique stay.
